Both. Not all models have the same problems. Bottom line, it is model and year specific for pre-2012 models. If you are interested in a used Tiffin, get the VIN number and call Service to see if it might be subject to any of the problem areas.

Thanks for the clarification. The problem with that is there are a number of '08 - '10 Phaetons and Buses on the market. I would like to know which ones to even be interested in without getting all the VINs and multiple calls to Red Bay.

Once you see a coach that has had the mods and compared it to one that hasn't, you won't need to call Red Bay each time.

Roof rails are easy. If it has a separate piece where the roof rolls over to the side wall, it's been modified.

The slideout is a little harder, but once you see the difference where the corners meet the floor, you will know.

The wet bay floor will be plastic type material if it's been replaced.

Not necessarily true. Our 2010 Phaeton had the wet bay floor replaced in 2012 and it was NOT the plastic material that is currently being used. I doubt that outwardly you would be able to tell the "fixed floor" from the original.

What was the problem with the roof rails?

Small vertical cracks in the fiberglass. Fiberglass is replaced with aluminum.

Great pic of the roof rail cracks. Those are pretty large and easy to see. Many are much smaller and close examination is necessary.

Just checked the roof rails carefully. The drivers side has about 2-3 dozen cracks in the forward section. How is the repair done?

They cut the curved part of the roof (rails) off and replace it with aluminum. That results in another seam on each side. I have heard of issues with the remaining fiberglass cracking because of stresses created when they lift it up for the new seam.

I hear that TMH has replaced the entire roof on coaches that have experienced further cracking.

So in the '08 Phaeton below..I see no "separate piece" on the roof line. So that means it has not been repaired.

Correct?

I should be more specific. There are no Tiffin dealers with any used inventory within 400 or so miles of where I live. So I am doing a lot of looking on dealer websites. I'm simply want trying to understand exactly what to look for in any pictures they have on their sites.

Thanks. Chuck

I can't tell from the pic. If you can't tell from the ground, just climb up the ladder and see if there is another seam on each side.

Since the pictured coach has a light color on the rail portion, it may be more difficult to spot any cracking.
