What is your mpg

If everyone will post what model, gas or diesel, and MPG, I'll put the information into chart or graft. Thanks. I'm trying to justify buying a diesel!

Buying diesel vs. gas I think would depend on how much use you will have. JMHO. I have an 03 Chateau Sport 26Q Class C weighing in at 12,300 max run about 11,500 with everything we need. 8.1 Vortec on a GM cutaway van chassis 3500. Prime speed is 60 to 62 mph and on our last 5700+ mile trip to 12 states (Western U.S.) averaged 9.78 mph. All types of driving, weather, mountains, tail and head winds, and running cab AC and generator for house AC about 2/3 of the time on a 5 week trip. Low was 8.1 mountains and all AC going and high was 10.8 no wind and flat ground. Hope this helps.

These answers ought to be a real giggle. I've seen people quote numbers that are flat impossible, running downhill with a 50mph tailwind, but what the heck, here goes.

6.7 mpg over 16,000 miles
41,000 pounds pulling 5500 pound toad
target speed 67mph --- sometimes we cruise faster, sometimes slower
All measurements figured BY HAND ---- miles driven divided by gallons put in. NO adjustments for generator use. We would class our generator use as light.

This is a pic of our Freightliner info board after using almost 50 gallons of fuel in our 2011 Allegro Red .
I drive between 60 and 62 miles per hr towing a 3,700 # Equinox. This trip was from Fla to N C. In almost 22,000 miles we are avg 10.5 mpg.

I suggest you consider cents / mile rather than miles / gallon. IMO, the cost per mile is more relevant for your "justification".

FWIW, my gasser costs me $0.538 per mile when gas is $3.50/gallon.

If MPG is the only justification for buying a diesel, ya better start lookin' at gassers . . . just sayin'

Good luck though!

I'm not savvy enough to include a picture of my Freightliner Info center, but it says: Trip Distance - 12,052 Trip Mileage - 9.2

I had the Allison 6 speed reprogrammed to default to economy mode rather than performance mode 12,052 miles ago. I used to get 8.4, but since the reprogramming I'm at 9.2 and I think it is still climbing. It is a cummulative figure so it changes very slowly.

Cummins 6.7L 350hp/750Lbs across the scales at 25,600 lbs (29,410lb GVWR)
I usually set the cruise so that she's turning around 1750 rpm, that gives me 62-64mph. No technical reason for the 1750, just 1800 seemed too high and 1700 seemed too low

I agree with Stik. There's no justification by way of mileage for a diesel pusher. We're on our third, though, and have loved them. Our latest (2006 Marathon) gets 6 mpg on a good day, but it is by far our favorite coach. It's more what you're willing to pay than what you can justify!

2000 Chevy 454 gas - 9.5 MPG not towing, 8.8 MPG towing a small car.
P.S. IMHO, To compare you also need to consider how much weight/comforts folks are hauling. Sure my little no slides 30 foot RV is at 15,000 lbs gasser uses less fuel vs. a 40 foot diesel at 2x that weight with slides. 240 square feet vs. twice the square feet of space.
At 3 to 5,000 miles a year the mileage gets to be insignificant.
Maintenance cost would seem to be a bigger factor - drive a lot = diesel, drive a little = gas will do.
And then there is terrain = power required - mountain vs. flat lands.

Let me save you some work; you can't justify buying a diesel based on mpg, or cost, or longevity, or anything else involving money. There are lots of other factors that drive people to buy diesels, cost savings is not one of them.
Still, this will be an interesting exercise, be sure to post your results.
