Whirlpool Residential Refrigerator

Our Whirlpool residential refrigerator just crapped out. Of course it was 5 months out of warranty We had to replace the evaporator coil at a cost of $675. While that is cheaper than a new refrigerator, I’m wondering if more problems with this thing are in our future.

We had used it for only about 4 months & the MH was just out of warranty. It was stored for 5 months this winter. I did exercise the generator every month, but I did nothing with the refrigerator. We just left it off.

Any ideas?

Any idea why the evaporator coil went out? I could understand the compressor as it does something but I believe the evaporator coil just sits there in the system. Perhaps something rubbed a hole in it or it got excessively dirty? We have found our coils beneath our KitchenAid get very dirty and have to be vacuumed and blown out a lot. We've got 60,000 miles on our RR in this Bus on a modified sine wave inverter (dedicated to only the refrig) and have had no problems with it.

No idea why it failed. I was with the tech when he repaired it. We couldn't see any obvious reason for the failure.
