Why did my hydraulic fluid reservoir implode?

I own a '98 Allegro Bus and the hydraulic fluid reservoir for the power steering imploded. Does anyone know what causes this?

if it was made out of plastic - probably age and weather changes. Dave

Thank you all! This is the same type reservoir, it broke somewhat like this. We've teetered between 30's and 80's over this past week, it's plastic and old and i'm certain it has a clogged vent, makes sense now. I'll find a new reservoir and go from there. Again, thank you!
