Windshield

2014 Allegro Bus. 12 inch crack in windshield starting mid height passenger side. So need to have it replaced in the seattle area. Anyone else have a windshield replaced. I’m concerned about finding a shop that will do it right.

Our 2016 Phaeton had the exact same crack in pretty much the same spot. While set up at Southern Oregon RV park in Medford, OR in late June, a mobile glass guy came by, saw it and made arrangements with our insurance company to replace it on the spot. GREAT service and it doesn't get any more convenient than that. We've now traveled to New England, through some pretty horrendous rain storms and the windshield has been fine. Same size, same location makes one wonder if there is a systemic issue. Check with your insurance adjuster and see if they list mobile glass repair in your area. Could save you the hassle of taking it in.

Thanks for the info. I relieved that it will not take a special place to replace such a large windshield. Jeff

Replacing that giant windshield is a) expensive; b) and requires special skills to replace. Most mobile windshield repair companies can not/will not repair in the field. Don't be surprised if you are directed to a glass repair facility that is located in a large metro area.

We had our windshield replaced at Coach Glass in Coburg OR. They make the windshields on site and have a replacement service at the factory. You need to make an appointment. They did a great job and no issues in the last 18 months. They are located about 5 minutes from the Eugene Premier RV park just off of I5. You save the WA sales tax and shipment costs to Seattle. I too would recommend Coach Glass in Coburg. I had a new Windshield installed in May and they did a first class job. They have windshields made for all makes and models of coaches and then warehouse them in Coburg.

Out of curiosity, how much does a new RV windshield normally cost. Our insurance policy won't have a special clause for windshield breakage (Miller Insurance policies don't include it). We will have a $750 deductible comprehensive policy.

Our cost was around $1,480.00 without any shipping costs or state sales tax.

Wow, the cost of replacements is definitely cheaper in the US.
We had ours replaced last year as an insurance claim.
I had received 3 quotes:
1) $3,800.00 US, but had to book an appointment in the US 3 months in advance
2) $6,200.00 CAD, 2-3 week wait for a replacement to arrive
3) $5,000.00 CAD, again a 2-3 week wait. I went with this dealership.
My insurance deductible was $,1,000.00
No regular auto glass facility would touch it.
As someone else commented, it is a specialized job.
We did find RV Glass replacement companies in the US, but in Canada, only through the higher end RV Dealerships who contract the work out to independent operators.
If I ever have to do it again, I think I will make arrangements through a US facility and pay the exchange.

I think you’ll find all RV maintenance work is done better for a more reasonable price in the US. I’m Canadian and cannot find a decent Service Center in Western Canada.

I'm in Canada as well, in Squamish bc. I had the local speedy Auto Glass replace passenger side of windshield with no problem. Don't remember cost because insurance looked after it

I just had the Windshield on my '14 Allegro Bus replaced. Was quoted $4500. I passed it to Insurance and only had to pay deductible. One of the techs asked a good question. "What do they have to have such big windshields?"
