I and traveling friends both have the same exact Tiffin Open Road (fred) and both have Windshields that have cracked on both the passanger and drivers side in the upper corner. These cracks are not a result of anything hitting the windshield from the outside. The are cracks the can be felt from the inside only. Has anyone else had this problem

One candidate might be the window frame being distorted or twisted when the chassis flexes like when you cross a dip or rise at an angle. It can put enough pressure on the windshield to cause it to crack. That's what happened to our Dolphin. It just cracked with a loud pop when I was crossing a gutter at an angle.

Leveling the coach with jacks can also cause cracks and can pop windshield out of rubber casket mounting.
If they may have AUTO Leveling on uneven pad or person can do it manually.
Should read Owners Manual for proper leveling of coach.

It does happen due to frame/body flexing, but it shouldn't. I've not heard of it happening on a Tiffin before. If it were my Tiffin, I would be talking to Tiffin about the problem.

Call Tiffin about the problem. I personally know a couple of people that have had to have the windshield on the Allegro or Allegro Bay Fred replaced more than once. On one occasion the coach was sitting in the backyard when cracked. Tiffin is familiar with the problem.

I have read posts of a couple of them that had window frame material not installed correctly and I think it was screw heads or some such that caused a stress on the windshield and caused them to break .

I would for sure give TMH a call and discuss it.

I have a 2008 32 BA FRED and my unit had a cracked windshield when we went for the PDI. Yes there is a problem with screws not being removed at the build. If you contact Red Bay they should be able to help.

Thanks to all of your replys. After a long peroid of communication with Tiffin I and my friend both got our Windshields replaced by Tiffin. The problem was 3 screws on both sides of the windshield at the top that should have been removed after the rubber sealnwas glued into place. again thanks for your help. This is a great Forum.

Ask Tiffin if they want you to extend AND retract the slides BEFORE or AFTER you level. Several manufacturers have had windshield cracking issues due to the chassis twisting during slide activation without proper leveler / jack support.

Our instructions were jacks down & level before extending the slides. Slides in before going jacks up. I think some of the problems that they have been having is due to sloppy installation on the assembly line. So far on mine, 5 1/2 years, 40,000+ miles I've had one rock nick that I had to have repaired on my windshield. It must have come through on a good day on the line.
