Winterizing
It looks like we will have to winterize our 2010 Phaeton after purchase next week. Could anyone please point me in the direct on how to winterize this coach? How many gallons of antifreeze will I need. Don't see anything in the owner's manual. TIA!

Process is simple.
With holding tanks EMPTY
1. Drain all your lines and hot water tank. Also Refrig if you have ice maker or water line in it.
2. By-Pass the Hot water heater. You should have 3 valves near the heater. Basically turn all 3. Make a note so you don't get confused with which way they need to be to
3. Blow out all lines with air.
4. Add Antifreeze (suction kit works for me)
This is a pretty good video.

Google is your friend for a procedure like this. They'll take you though it step-by-step. Depending on how many appliances you have to winterize & how many traps/toilet bowls to pour into, count on about 5 gallons.

Our local Walmart had 2.5 gallon jugs of antifreeze for about $4.50 each. I went through about 6 gallons with all the stuff we have to winterize. And if you have the black tank flush, make sure you blow that out, if not the plastic vacuum breaker can freeze and break. If you have AquaHot, they do not recommend using air pressure over 20 PSI.

My 22' Class-C has a standard tank type hot water heater. After blowing out my lines and bypassing the heater I only need about 1 Gal. Wally does have a good price on RV antifreeze and that is about the only thing I buy there as I believe workers should be paid a living wage and not have to depend on food stamps to eat.. I also refuse to shop at CW.

Also.... If it was upgraded to a tankless water heater go online and download the winterizing instructions for that device from that manufacturer's web site. I have found the required steps to differ greatly based on manufacturer.
Best,
-Mark

When talking about Winterizing most correctly think about water freezing. As a Tire Engineer I also think about the effects of long term parking has on tires and tire life. I have a couple of posts on my blog specifically on this topic. Folks might want to review my suggestions as some preventive maintenance relates to tire life.
