Xantrex freedom inverter-HELP!!

I have a 12 year old Xantrex freedom inverter, it is going to overheat when i have it plugged into to the 50 amp supply at the house. I have installed a progressive EMS-50 a few weeks ago so I know my incoming power is good.
all i had running was the frig and a roof vent fan. It is showing pulling 50 amps it has never been that high before sitting in the driveway. The inverter panel is showing different battery charges then the led panel and it is jumping around a lot on the Xantrex panel. I unplugged the land line for an hour and plugged it back in it ran fine for about an hour than jumped to the overheat. I felt the inverted and it is real hot so it is now unplugged. It has been close to 100 degrees this weekend. Do i have a bad inverter? Need some help on this one.

What model number? I have the Xantrex RS2000 (obsolete) manuals I downloaded from the Xantrex website, it's temperature operating range is -4 deg.F to 122deg.F. They have a customer service number I once called, the man was quite helpful with my obsolete inverter/charger. My problem was high battery float charge, he said to unplug the battery temperature sensor and the inverter would revert to factory specs. They have no spare parts for my model, but his work-around works. After a few months I re-attached the temperature sensor phone cord, and it began working properly again. I still have a problem of the charger staying in float charge when it should kick up to bulk while boondocking, a reset solves that for a few months.

Thanks for the input I tried what you said it seemed to help then it went to overheat after about 30 Mins. The Fan is burned out so I think that is main problem, we just bought the rig this spring and plan to own for a number of years so I am just going to replace with new so it is fixed and off my watch list.
