08 Providence Heating issue

my providence has two hvac zones and two modes "electric & gas"... When I choose to use only "electric" the system will kick in both for a while and after it reaches a certain level the gas furnace turns off and the electric runs for a while. I'm sure this is built into the system because gas will heat faster, but is there a way to override this? Sometimes I just want to operate on electric. Anyone have the same issue and found a solution?

The gas furnace kicks in if the set temperature is 5 or more degrees above the actual interior temperature. Just turn the t-stat down to keep within the 5 degree range. You can turn it up higher once the interior warms up a bit.
