Hi, we just bought a 1989 Fleetwood Bounder. The frig doesn't work and the air on the vehicle doesn't work. Thank goodness the overhead air works and the generator works. We just bought new tires and most of the rest works well. It was fairly well taken care of. The steps are also rusty. Does anyone know where I can get replacement steps and also a replacement frig or where this one can be rebuilt?

congrats on the "new" rig. Post some photos so we can see the Old gal.
And you are classified as a Vintage RV.

On that vintage Fleetwood you need to keep a close watch on the roof joints at the front and rear cap joints. They are prone to leaks. The best fix is to clean them up and cover them with Eternabond.

I have double electric steps. I am beginning to think it may cost me more than the RV is worth to repair the few things that need it. LOL. Frig about 1,200, steps about 400. Tires about 1,300 etc. lol and I haven't even got to the oil change and replace belts and hoses and brakes!

Pull your fridge out (it actually isn't all that hard to do) and go for a little drive to Falkville, Alabama to RV Refrigerator Repair. Check out this web site for info on them. They can fix whatever is wrong with it and have you good as new for much less than half the price of a new one. They fixed mine and it works great even though it is a 35 year old fridge. The only fly in the ointment I had was getting the refrigerator out the MH door. It was about 1/2 inch too wide. I had to disassemble it in the MH before it would fit through the door. Actually, all they need is the cooling unit (bunch of tubes) on the back of the fridge, but it can be a hassle to remove. If you can, take the whole thing and let them do it.

I tried to post pics but the file sizes were too large. I will have to figure out how to shrink them and repost.

We put a new rebuilt cooling unit in my sons refer and it was very easy. Much easier than trying to wrestling it out the door. AND muck cheaper, around $350 as I recall.
My son has the same motorhome as yours and loves it, good luck. Another source for Fleetwood parts is Walts RV Salvage, click below and it will take you to his web site...........

congrats on the rig, and advice: don't get discouraged or dismayed at what it costs to replace stuff. once you start nickel and diming, you're going to find reasons in your mind to give up. always look for alternatives and capable repair shops. there's always more than one method to defur a feline. you say your steps are rusty; why not take them off and restore them instead of replacing them?

Chuck 1935, thanks for the info. Does your son have his original steps? We replaced our rusty steps with some Kwikee steps from a salvage yard that were a lot newer and cant get them to work. I am sure it is a wiring problem or maybe even the switch? We may have to get a newer switch to work with the newer steps. I am totally at loss here. If you could help in any way please contact us by email, juanita_mcspadden@yahoo.com or johnnymacjr@yahoo.com Also would you email my husband regarding the frig. His email is above and his name is John McSpadden. We live in north Florida near Lake City. Thank you, Juanita

I have included a web site for Refrigerator cooling units, but if you do a search on line there are plenty more. Also, on this site under search at the top of the page there is information on Amish cooling units that some folks like. As for the steps his don't work either but they are very low on his TO DO list. I'm sure someone on irv2 has experiance with your steps, just ask.
