Any issue where the engine loses power and stalls then takes a cooling down period before you can restart it, sounds like fuel starvation. It could be a weak fuel pump, but you say it's been happening for a while. Next would be vapor lock. Trace the route of the fuel line from the tank to the engine. It might be close to the exhaust and getting hot enough to 'boil' the gas and prevent proper flow. Insulating or shielding the fuel line might prevent the fuel heating. I'd also hook up a fuel pressure gauge and monitor the pressure, especially when it stalls again. Low fuel pressure also contributes to vaporization. If you have two fuel pumps, one in the tank and a second in the line, I'd suspect the pump in the tank is weak.
