2000 39Z Bounder dash

Iím new to this forum. I thought Iíd share some information I just learned.

We recently purchased a 2000 Fleetwood Bounder 39Z DP. Itís in relatively good shape -low mileage but is definitely showing its age.

I just discovered that the dash instrument panel (speedometer, etc) is hinged and swings up. A photo may appear below.

A rod swings up from the lower dash on the left side of the steering wheel to support the panel in its raised position, much like a car hood.

A fuse panel is accessible once the instrument panel is raised. A photo may appear below.

You can also easily access the dash radio when the panel is raised.

I hope this helps some of you.

Post Instrument Dome on 1999 Southwind Storm

Hi Friends, We have a 1999 Southwind Storm that we purchased used with about 24,000 miles. After a few tribulations, it is now running quite well. But our latest problem was a stumper.

Both Fleetwood Customer Service and a local Motor home repair shop said if my dome shaped instrument cluster was not hinged, I would have to work any problems from under the dash and suggested I remove the drivers seat to give me better access. This turns out to not be correct.

If you have a 1999 Fleetwood Southwind Storm with the wood grained bezel surrounding the instrument cluster, look closely for screws surrounding the perimeter. Remove the screws and the entire cluster will lift out with easy access to all instruments. My headlight switch knob pulled out and after numerous incorrectly suggested ways to gain access, I found it myself. The switches are readily available (GM Part SW144) and I got locally. Once I discovered the proper removal/replacement method, repairing it was about a 30 minute job maximum. I think many repair techs assume if the cluster isn't hinged, it must be accessed from underneath. That was not possible on this model.

Hope no one else has this similar experience.
