2000 Prowler 24J Fridge freezing

Hi, I have a 2000 Prowler 24J. During the last camping trip, the refridg started freezing everything. (Nothing worse than trying crack open a frozen egg.) It is a preset unit, so there are no temp control knobs. I adjusted the thermostat (?) that is located on the fins all the way to the top, bottom and even just let it hang. This has not done any good. Is this the problem? And if so, is it easy to replace? ANy info will be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming this is a Dometic?
If your thermister (what you call thermostat) is not on the fins, it WILL freeze the whole thing.
The thermister is preset so that it reads temp from the fins, which are colder than the air in the refr. If reads 30*F on the fins, and that means maybe 35*F air. So if you take it off and let it hang, it reads 35*F which it thinks it fins, so it tries to cool to 30*F, but it's actually air temp not fins.
There's a good chance your thermister is bad, or possibly a bad control board.
The thermister has certain ohm readings at certain temps you can test, or need to have tested.

It is a Dometic Americana. I can not locate a model # anywhere. It freezes with thermister on the fins. And it happens on both, 110 or gas. Is the thermister easy to replace?

Model number should be inside the refr compartment on one side of the box.
Thermister is not hard. Pull it through the back of the box, unplug from the board, reinstall.

Found out there was a recall in 2006 for the dometic due to leaking ammonia. Took it in to have that taken care of and to check on the freezing problem. Turns out it wasn't the thermister, it was the control board. So I had them replace that, along with the frige, the sofa, bed and everything else. The wife was wanting something a little bigger anyway, so we walked out with a 2012 Coachmen Apex. Has a slide, bigger bedroom and more storage. Should pick it up next week. Can't wait. Guess this is one way to get the frige to work....
