2001 Fleetwood Expedition overheating issue

Hello,

I have an overheating issue with my 2001 Fleetwood, It is a diesel 300 HP Cumm.. it does fine until i have to climb hills or mountain passes, i can maintain the heat at a safe level by not putting the pedal all the way down and maintaining a very slow speed....could it be the thermostat? and if so can i replace it myself? Appreciate any help!

Thanks Phillip

Mountains and hills I downshift and keep RPM's around 2,000. I changed my thermostst last year.....piece of cake.

Has your radiator been cleaned lately?

I think I did, my brother who is a great mechanic pulled the radiator off had it cleaned , he also replaced the water pump and thermostat, both were easy to do and might as well if your in there. I helped him put it all back together in about two hours, heavy stuff so two people is a good idea. But honestly it wasn’t as big of a job as I thought it would be. Freightliner quoted me just under 3000 to do all this I was in it around two hundred for parts and having the radiator cleaned and painted that also included the inner cooler also. We took off for Tennessee had some air in it so the temperatures rose a few times but it worked itself out and on the way home to Utah had no problems, we pulled our Jeep also. Hope that helps!
