2002 Southwind Water Leaks

Much to my chagrin my 2002 Southwind has some leaks with our typical Washington fall weather.....the carpet next to the slide is wet, and there is water pooling on the dash from somewhere. I intend to move it to our storage space and cover it with both a cover and a tarp as soon as a dry day shows up, and already have an appointment with a shop to have the leaks addressed in the spring.

I plan to run the furnace after it's parked for at least a day in company with a dehumidifier to dry things out, coupled with the long term dry z air (sp?) for the rest of the year. What else should I do?

My apologies, but not being a "spring chicken" I'm not willing to get up on a wet roof to deploy the cover. I'm sure we're not the first ones to discover leaks so any hints, tips, or advice is greatly appreciated!

Can't add much on water around the slide but I have experienced water on the dash. My first thought was the marker lights on the front cap had a leak or the windshield seal at the top was leaking. It turned out that it was condensation on the inside of the fiberglass front cap was dripping off the overhead cabinet and onto the dash. If it just started leaking when the weather turned cold at night and then warm sun on the cap during the day it could be just conensation. Have you had it out in the rain this summer with no leak?

I didn't notice any drips earlier in the year, but that really doesn't mean it wasn't leaking. We didn't notice the slide leaking until we spent some time with it out during a windy/rainy day at a state park. Thought maybe the wind/rain combination was the cause, but that doesn't (unfortunately) seem to be the case.

The dealership mentioned the marker lights might be the culprit, that will be my next project on a dry day. I did seal the top of the windshield with a bead of silicone, that didn't seem to make any difference. I also stopped by a local glass shop to see about having new seals put in for the windshield, he said that most every time that is tried the windshield panels crack due to the size and associated stress of being pulled out. He also noted that the passenger side glass has been replaced at some point in time, the driver's side is OEM according to the date code.

Well, bummer.....slide seals, multiple window seals (including windshield), and most of the roof seals are leaking. Extended warranty will not cover the replacement/repair costs as they consider this normal wear and tear. $4,200 to repair, ouch!
