We bought a 2007 Excursion 39V this week, should be delivered next weekend. The coach has 8,600 miles and 184 hr on gen. Dealer said it was serviced at Frightliner and 6 new batteries installed. Can anyone tell what the maintenance schedule is and approximate cost?

Previously owned 5th wheel and Ford SD 12 years, tired of towing.

RG,

You should receive all of the manuals from the previous owner and one of them is for the engine.
The Excursion is a beautiful motor home.
Enjoy!

If you didn't receive manuals with your motorhome, contact Freightliner in Gaffney, SC at 1-800-FTL-HELP. They can send you current maintenance schedules via e mail. You will need you VIN number when you call.

If you're not aware, its very important to exercise (run) the generator under 50% load every month for at least one hour to keep it maintained.

Personally, I would change the engine and genset oil, oil and fuel filters and the air filters. Even though the air filter on the engine doesn't have many miles, they have a tendency to break down.

Check the date on the tires and consider replacing at 6 years regardless of the tread depth. While I'm on tires, first time you get it loaded with clothes, food, water, fuel and all the unnecessary "stuff" we seem to haul around get it weighed. Four corner weighing is best but kind of hard to find a weigh station sometimes for this so at least weigh the front, total and rear axles. Then go to your tire manufacturers website to find out the correct air pressure for the tires.

Enjoy your new motorhome and as always...safe travels.

You can call Freighliner to confirm the servicing and get the details as to what they did and as importantly when they did it.

Some Excursions in 2007 came with CAT engines as I recall and I would think that your transmission is the Allison 3060 Six Speed.

The coach has very low mileage but do to the time parameters make sure that Freightliner changed the fluids and filters in the Allison, changed all fuel filters in the CAT and did a complete oil change and chassis lube. Also a new air filter should have been installed just due to age of the paper filter element.

Coolant should have been drained , flushed and re-filled as well.

Also confirm that the generator was serviced - new fuel, air and oil filters plus a coolant change

Now, going forward after the above are either done or you find out they have been done it is pretty easy:

-Annual Lube, Oil and Filter for the engine and chassis + fuel filters changed
-Annual Generator Service ..oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter

I have the above services done at Speedco as I could not buy the materials for what they charge for their excellent service. No appointment needed. In and out in one hour. If you have the CAT, they have CAT filters for an upcharge. Figure about $199 for the coach and another $40 for the generator plus the CAT filter upcharge. Oil analysis is available onsite for another $20 or so.

-Main engine air filter change every 3 years or when your filter minder tells you it is time to change. I have a Cummins but I know my Wix filter sells for around $70.

-Allison transmission will need service per their specs which will depend on the type of fluid you have. Hopefully you have the Transynd fluid which gives you extended drain intervals. At any rate the cost and frequency will be fluid dependent

-If your coach has a separate hydraulic system for the power steering operation it will need fluid changes and filter changes every 2 years or so.

-Your air dryer filter will need to be changed every 3 years or so unless you find moisture in your air tanks prior to 3 years. Don;t know the cost as mine has one more year to go and the air system is dry as a bone.

I hope this gives you some baseline information.

Speedco can take the pain out of the annual services which are the most frequent.

Enjoy your new coach and congratulations

Thanks Dave, maybe I'll see you on the road one day, look for the black and silver Excursion that says "Just win baby" on the back.

You can download the chassis maintenance schedules from the Freightliner web site. Some years can be very expensive!

Freightliner will be having a West Coast "Camp Freightliner" Some time this year. Excellent class for learning all about your chassis. 2 day course full of good info, & a training manual for reference.
