The external sensors for the fresh water system tank are falling off. Has anyone else had this problem? Talked to the local Fleetwood dealer, his fix was to replace them all at a cost of apprx. $270.00. I hate to think that these need to be replaced on a 3 year cycle, not a real good sevice life. Any thoughts would be most helpful.

gpscotty,

Falling off as you can retape them on?
I have a 2008 Bounder and no sign of a problem.
Can you duct tape them on and avoid the $ fix.
Any 2008 Southwing members out there to help?

Steve

The sensors I'm familiar with are held on with shouldered nut. If the sensor you have was glued/epoxied on then I would think you could (Super?)glue them back on. I can't imagine being able to use any kind of tape to tape them tightly enough against the tank to be able to register the tank level. Heat and vibration would probably cause the glue on the tape to come loose fairly quick.

I know I haven't helped with your problem but I would think you could buy replacement probes. Have you considered contacting Fleetwood customer service for their advice. They've always been very helpful just have your VIN handy when you call. I wish I could be more help. Good luck

Hey Jim,

Glad to hear your back and discounting MY duct tape, my favorite emergency material. No heat to contend with on a freshwater tank and if the tape works then a more perminant solution is in order like YOUR epoxy. We wouldn't want to have to clean up epoxy if it dosen't work.
Fleetwood is always the #1 source of parts and info. usually at a moderate price. 800-322-8216
You need your FIN# to talk to Fleetwood,

Steve

Thanks to all who replied. They are fixed and working well, the repair was done by Camper World at a cost of $66.00 for a savings $203.00 over the dealer quote. I never called Fleetwood direct, so don't know what they would have reccommended. It pays to shop around. gpscotty

What did they do to fix them? If they didn't tell you, it should be on the invoice/service order.

Reglued and a large speed tape patch over all three. So for all is well, will know more after our trip to Idaho. ( Speed tape as used it in the Air Force, was used to cover hole made by what ever scource in the exterier skin of the aircraft until a proper fix could be accomplished and was good to airspeeds in excess of 250k's indicated ) gps

What kind of sensors do you have on that tank?

The standard tank sensor is nothing more than a screw or nail driven into the tank and it is all but impossible for it to come off, in fact, it is Impossiible for it to come off.

now some "Advanced" (and I might add superior) sensors like the See-Level system.. Those stick on, and can be glued back on using fairly common glues if needed. .. but I've yet to actually see such a system.

It is a set of 3 black boxes approx 2x4 inches square by 1/2 inch thick. each has a wire coming from it, which goes to the master read out box would be my guess. one is at the top, one in the middle and the last at the bottom. I can only see a small portion of the tank and the 3 sensors, this is just aft of the main tank drain vavle. This is viewed from inside a small compartment just aft of the entry door. gps
