2017 Bounder 36H GVW on 22,000#

Almost bought one today then saw weight tag. This chassis is rated to 22,000# but dry weight is 20,500#. Sleeps 8 people but won't carry 8 with even small amount of luggage.
Another Bounder, same length and same wheelbase (242") is rated to 24,000#.

This was a deal breaker. Anyone have any insight?

Thanks,

Well you did the right thing , walked away , too many RV's of all types overloaded from the factory.
When I was shopping for class A's , a saleslady from one of the dealers , I had visited called with " a great unit , that I just had to see". I asked about CCC, she called back later and said 518, thinking that being in Canada that must be kilograms , I decided it was worth a look slim but maybe doable.
Fantastic looking unit , tile, marble , hardwood everywhere,,BUT the CCC was 518 lbs. With my DW , myself and the saleslady standing in it , it was overloaded, not even beer in the fridge.
As we exited the unit , the sales manager was waiting , asked if we were taking it , I said no, he said ok we've got someone in the box, check book in hand to take it away .
When every RV buyer , knows to look at the numbers , and refuses to buy these overloaded units , maybe ; just maybe ; manufacturers will stop building them .
So much for my " Rant of the Day"

I should have added , I believe Ford is supplying chassis with 22,000/24,000 and 26,000 GVWR.

JMHO: Fleetwood built that model , on the wrong chassis , to save a few $$$.

Yep, always look at the CCC of the vehicle and how you intend on using it. Also, tow ratings and capacity. So many ignore these important aspects.
You did the right thing. Keep on looking you will find the right one.
The salesperson will never point this out. All they care about is selling. Don't trust them and certainly do you own verification of ANYTHING they say.

You did the right thing and maybe you learned that on irv2. I know I did and while at LD in Tampa looked at a 2004 38 or 39' gas Mountain Aire on a w-22 chassis and I forget the numbers right now but it sure didn't leave much for loading or pulling a toad. It sure was nice looking though.

Total weight is not the only problem

You have to find out how much of the total weight is over the rear axle. Many times the rear axle weight is exceeded significantly. I was paid a good amount of money by Thor when I proved my Hurricane rear axle was overloaded by a faulty design. Made no changes to the coach, used it for 5 years without a problem so I concluded that Ford made a good tough chassis even when abused by the manufacturer.

Hush money

No threats (never use the word lawyer), no damage, no money spent to rectify. Drove it for 45,000 miles before buying our Bounder. Just weight slips used to prove my point.
