Looks like the same floorplan, but he 40G is a Discovery LXE with additional features and trim like the Firefly switch system, Bose sound equipment, upgraded floors, etc. (at least in the current 2017 model year coaches).

Here is a link to fleetwoods website to compare the two models. The LXE has more available options, and comes standard with a Girard roof mounted awning with fairings, instead of a wall mounted awning.

The 2017 we looked at before getting a 2015 did not have the cabinets over the couch ... And had a huge window in its place. Which I kind of liked.

I have a 2017 Discovery 39G and there are some differences and in my opinion, very small ones.
The engine on my 39G is 360HP and on the 40G it's 380HP. The 40G has under chassis lighting and the 39G does not, which I'm sure is cool, but not really a necessity or a creature comfort (and I'm sure can be added by purchasing a spool/roll of LED lights if desired). If you put the equip list side by side, they are VERY similar. The floor plans, furnishings, appliances and equipment are virtually identical. We have the firefly switch system (awesome), the nav system, bose sound bar, 3 LED tvs (plus 2 in the bunks) etc., etc...Among the many similarities is the tankless water heater, which is GREAT!
We purchased ours this summer and so far, really like it. It's a a lot of coach for the dough. If you have any specific questions, just ask.

No problem with pulling that 2500 Avalanche? Trying to decide between. The two (39G vs 40g). Working deals on both. One question the infinite hot water no issue if showering and running one of the 2 other appliances?

I have a 2011 40G with the Cummins ISC 8.3 and the torque and hp are about equal to the ISL9 and I pull a jeep sometimes or a 21' center console boat and it pulls both of them easily. I sure wouldn't want to lose 300 lb ft of torque with the smaller engine, as that is what you'll really notice vs the hp difference. I'd go with the current 40G no question.

Not sure where you will be traveling if it's flat like Florida or not but...We live NH and often travel on mountainous roads and tow the 6,600lb Avalanche 2500 everywhere we travel. There is also 5 of us, plus all of our stuff and the coach really handles it well. The HP and torque seem ample and the Allison transmission is great! I just pop it down on the steep grades when needed. We've also pulled it up some impressive hills. I'm pretty happy with it.
The Avalanche has plenty of rm in the closed/dry bed (like a huge trunk) for the kids toys, bikes, etc. and it's SUPER easy to tow. No pulling fuses, or disconnecting batteries, or buying any oil pumps, or the need for it to run at certain intervals etc...none of that stuff. And when we're at our destination, it fits all five of us comfortably. They really are nice versatile vehicles and it's a shame they don't make them anymore! That's why I've kept it and it's ideal for our needs when traveling.
As far as the Truma tankless H20 heater, as I said, there are 5 of us and it handles it VERY well. Showers, the dishwasher, washing machine and all. So far we are happy with the coach. It is still new and we only got to use it one summer so far and it's put away for the winter now…so hopefully it will keep us smiling!
I think they are extremely similar coaches and between the 2, it most likely comes down to what works best for you and your best deal. I don't think you will miss out on anything if you choose either one.
Hope this helped a bit.
Lots of luck and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

New front caps are Monaco leftovers. Fleetwood and Monaco are both Rev Group brands. This is the info I got yesterday at the dealer while looking at Discovery and Pace Arrow.

This weekend we pick the 2017 40G. Nice. Especially the walk through with all slides in. Still learning all the buttons and gadgets compare to my 2012 storm. Looking forward to many nights under the stars in comfort😎
