You should have a switch on the bedroom wall near the EMS display. The inverter powers the outlet for the bedroom TV and the outlet up front that the DVD/VCR is plugged into (DVD was an option). I only put ours on when we want to watch the back TV or a DVD. Else it is always off as it has no charging capability and does draw from the house batteries.

Some Inverters have a battery charger built in. It could be the battery charger circuit.

I agree, if it's an "in-line" inverter then it also charges the batteries when shore power is present.. The fan (The part you hear running) cools both the charger and the dis-charger (inverter).
Second: SOME inverters (My Prosine for example) are kind of picky about their food, if the 120 volt line is say 110 volt (or 140 volt) they will kick in to protect the down-line hardware and NOT pass the out-of-range power to the loads. Likewise if the 60 hz is only 50 or is 70
Or if the incoming waveform is ... nasty.
NOTE: in all cases the numbers I cited are outside the acceptable range, NOT the actual limits.

A 300 watt inverter would be for entertainment systems only. It's far too small to be an "inline" inverter with a charger. I think Bob has pretty well summed it up.
There is no need for concern if the 300 watt inverter is running while plugged to shore power or the generator is running - the 12v for the inverter is being supplied by the coach's converter/charger and the batteries are not draining. If camped without external power, you can shut the inverter off if you don't need it for the tv.

Gary; When you are right you are right. I misread the post and thought he said three thousand watt. 300 watt would NOT have a charger.(Darn senior moments)

Wish I could say I never read one of these too fast and gave an inappropriate answer... but I cannot!
