5 Star Tuning

I installed the program on my 2000 Bounder this past weekend. Took about a 20 mile run down the highway and all I can say is WOW!

The best compliment I can make about it is that the machine ran so differently that even my wife could tell a difference. she said it was quieter. That's because of the difference in the shifting. Before we left I didn't tell her anything about what the re-programming would do because I wanted to see if she could tell. It only took her a few miles to start talking about it.
Put me on the list of very satisfied customers! If anyone else is on the fence about purchasing these. take my advice and so it.

I have a 1999 F53. I know the 5-Star is great for the newer trannys, 2006 and up, (shifting points) but wasn't aware of the changes it made to the 4R100 tranny (ours)..

this is one of those thing that I would like to test drive it before I purchase it.. but that option isn't available..

Did 5-Star send you a list of changes that you might notice?

No I did not ask for a list of changes. I know they have several different items they can address, though. Towing, etc. You can always e mail them and ask. All I know is that it made a very noticeable difference in mine. It clearly doesn't seem like it's working as hard from a stop.

I have a 2000 Bounder 39Z with a Cummins 5.9L - 275 HP Turbo Diesel.

Would a tune improve the performance ? How do you install one?

You would need to check with them to make sure they make a tuner for your rig. I would bet they do. The install of the tuner is very straight forward and is accomplished by hooking the unit into the OBD port to you rig. I think diesels have a separate port in the engine bay although my gasser was up under the dash. On mine I plugged the unit into the port and then followed the instructions that came up. It involved turning the ignition on for several seconds, etc. The unit actually stores the original settings it finds before it downloads the updated version. So you can always switch back if needed.

I sugget a call to 5 Star and ask your questions. they are great to work with and you can find them on this forum in the vendor section.
