The wiper motor on the left side stopped working and now seem to be overheating and warm to the touch, whereas the working one is not, so I have assume it is toast, how hard is it finding a replacement and then pulling and installing the new one?

I pulled the fuse to insure it did not catch fire, or was that of no real concern?

I would like to save money and do it myself if it is an easy job, that a novice like me can tackle and be successful with.

Hi Kartvines,

I have taken wiper motors apart, cleaned and lubed with success.
Pulg and unplug all plugs to motor including ground first then be carefull not to loose internal springs and parts.
Try Walts RV in CA for your motor which should have a number on casing.

Steve

Thanks for your feedback, I looked for plugs but it seems as it it is hard wired, so I guess I would have to cut the wired, I don't want to pull on the connection only to discover there weren't plugs, I guess I have nothing to loose by trying that, so it comes off easily and comes apart with little problem? When going back together is it easy to detimine where everything goes, or would have to take a photos at each phase to insure it goes back the same way?

I can hit Walt's again, it seems as if since they moved it is all but inposible to find anything, but again too is worth a try.

there are quite a lot of motors out there so make sure connections to RV are taken off and put back on.
If you don't feel comfortable with doing this then Don't.
Call Walts and give them # to see if anyone there remembers it.

I did pull the motor out, and bench tested it and it did power up but also it did bind up, I disassemble it and lubed it and overall if worked better but would still bind, so after working over 8 hours on it I decided it was not worth taking the chance on.

I was however able to determined the make of it, and it ended up being a stock model a American Bosch, and it listed 2 sets of number but was unable to determine what was the model #, so either way the only way I can find a replacement one is to yank it out again, and carry it with me, until the replacement is found.

Making sure it will fit into the stock linkage.

I am now questioning if the American Bosch motor is a replacement, being once I took the slot bolt off, I could not get it back on, and it seems as if the shaft on the motor is not the same on the wiper assembly, because nothing I did would get the shaft to fit on the slot. Also I am getting so much misinformation, I just don't know who to believe anymore.

The Chevy Dealer said that they would have never installed a Bosch unit on their chassis, the guys from Mills Supply told me it would have been a motor that Fleetwood would have installed, and it has nothing to do with Chevy/GM. Many of the units that Mill supply sells, look correct, but they refuse to provide me with any information due to insurance risk, so again I feel as if I am hitting my head against the wall.

I have been to:
  • Walt's RV Surplus
  • Napa
  • Chevy dealership
and each told me they had nothing, I called the Mill Supply Inc. who sell wiper motor for the step van on the Chevy p-30 frame and he told me that he could not make any recommendation due to the risk of causing a fire, due to the wrong motor, and I was told I had to buy and take my chances, and to me that is not the way to go, so I am really stuck, with no replacement motor and feel as if I have hit a wall, there must be someone who can direct me on where to pick up the correct motor. the site you provide that had Bosch motor I will review again but being my slot did not fit onto the shaft makes me thing that it was not the correct motor to start off with.

I can not drive the motor home without this wiper motor, and so it is not as if I have a choice of replacing it, and I can not be th only one who has had this problem, I have begun searching for scraped Pace Arrow hoping I could strip one off anther unit, to no avail, does anyone else have any suggestion on a solution to my problem?

Have you tried just taking the motor and going to an auto parts store and see if they have one that will work. I just can't believe the bad motor is unique to your MH and there is not a replacement of some sorts out there.

If you haven't tried this, at this point I don't think you have anything to lose but a little time.

Well I agree with you, but so far I have not had any luck, I dropped by a shop who repairs motor home and he told me in his 20 years he has not had to replace a single motor , so who knows.
