93 Fleetwood Flair 28B - what is the suspension?

Friend of mine just bought a 93 Flair and since I own a motorhome he assumed I'd know the answer (he is new to RVing and not very mechanical). He asked if the front should ride lower than the rear, and asked what it had for a front suspension.

I own a Beaver Patriot Thunder and have no frame of reference. He thought it had an air bag inside the spring. This seems odd to me but I have never been close to one of these.

Most likely a GM P-chassis coach

Fleetwood gasoline motorhomes used either Ford or Chevrolet chassis.

If he has independent front suspension with air bags inside the front coil springs, he definitely has the Chevrolet chassis.

You can direct him to this link to learn more, about the chassis and decode his VIN tag. http://www.offroadtoybox.com/RV/P-Ch...entProcess.pdf

Some smaller models of that vintage were built on an E350 stripped chassis. Ford called it an "E33". I'm not sure exactly what years and models used it though.

If he can identify what engine it has (Ford 460 or Chevy 454), we can probably guess the chassis and therefore the front axle & suspension. Usually there is an engine/chassis emblem somewhere on the front corner and also on the steering wheel.

As always the iRV2 forums are a great help. He has identified his chassis as a P30 with a Chevrolet engine. Up to him now to join the community if he needs more help.

In which case we can now say that he has an Independent Front Suspension (IFS) utilizing coil springs and adjustable air bags, and a rear leaf spring suspension.

This P30 chassis service manual will tell him a lot about it:

The coach should sit level when loaded . If the front is lower the springs may have to be replaced. I got mine from Stengel Bros Inc. With the new springs air bags are not needed.
