Hi, I am considering buying (and have a deposit on) a 99 Fleetwood Southwind 32v. I have negotiated the price to $26,000 plus taxes ($30,000 all in) which I believe is a pretty good price. It is certified and e-tested etc. Upon further checking it here are some issues I found.

1)ABS light came on when driving? Only came on while driving not immediately on start-up (heard easy as a sensor or as bad as a seal somewhere?)

2) The hydraulic jacks were quite loud and sounded like grinding (arrrrrgh as opposed to buzzzz)- heard this could just be low fluid or may need full replacement..still works though in meantime (just loud).

3) 5500 watt Onan generator wouldnt stay running for long period but would start up (most likely clogged carb or low oil as I have found in past?)

4) 12 ft Awning over main slide is flaked and needs replacing

5) Missing a 2nd battery in house battery bank

Other than that the interior is mint etc and it really is beautiful. It was just brought from auction in Florida to Canada. I think he will come good for the generator fix and another battery but thats prob it?

Do I need new shoes to run away or is it worthwhile to pick it up at a good price and have fixed myself? Any and all thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

As always..thank you!

Hey BadBoy from Canada,

For price, you didn't state OD mileage:
http://www.nadaguides.com/RVs/1999/S...dard-Equipment

Certified- E-tested means nothing if they won't fix the items that require repair.
1. Diagnose, Let them fix brakes ( calipers, pads sensors etc)
2. Diagnose, Let them fix hydraulic levlers.
3. Probably not carb but oil level or fuel line to tank which requires dropping tank to accomplish so have them diagnose and repair since it's e-tested and certified.
4. You are stuck with awning so e-shop or camping world
5. OEM equipment are 2ea 6 volt house batteries so you may have one 12volt automotive battery that was substituted. Get 2 new Trojan t-105 6 volts in there and this will again be on you.
ADD #6. It is of utmost importance to replace Tires at 6 years old, regardless of the way they look. Check the tire code on each tire.
You really don't want a blowout.

That's my two Canadian cents worth and worth every penny!

Steve

I had a 99 32v, and enjoyed it. I sold mine last year for $32K, which was mid NADA, so I think you have some room to bring it up to spec and still have a good MH.

...........Badboy, the above item you mentioned could get expensive. If it was low on fluid you would have gotten a loud alarm noise as well as a warning light to warn you of low fluid, I'm assuming you did test drive ??
You are aware that you could save the $3,000.00 in taxes by buying from an individual. I just don't feel good about the company absorbing very much in expenses, just a thought. Not knowing the past history will probably be a mystery since it was an auction vehicle. JMHO, good luck.

BadBoy,

I believe, most of us are saying that we would pass this one up and try to get your deposit back.
Good luck,
Steve
