ABS indicator light.
2005 Southwind 32vs. The ABS indicator light came on on our return trip from Virginia to Florida. Brakes work just fine. After taking 'stuff' out of the MH when we got back I drove down our road and stood on the brakes at about 45-50 MPH. Stopped straight as an arrow and no lock up. I'm thinking a bad sensor? Anyone know how to troubleshoot the ABS? Thanks for any help.

ABS, light on , as you know is not an indicator of problems with the service brakes, only with the ABS system and , while the light is on you will have no ABS function. Visual inspection of the fuses and wiring is about all you can do without scanning for faults. You could disconnect the battery , for 2 mins to clear the fault, then on start up see if the light stays on after the bulb check, an indication that one sensor didn't return a signal to the controller. That doesn't narrow it down much though.
If the light goes out after the bulb check , but comes on while driving , could be a tone wheel signal problem ; but without know which wheel that's really no help.

Disconnecting the battery does no good nor does inspecting fuses in an ABS system. A visual inspection of the wheel sensors (if you can see them) and wiring may reveal something. If you're on a Ford chassis, we often get failures of the rear sensor which is in the differential housing. Cheap and easy to replace.

WorkHorse chassis. I'll see if I can find and inspect the sensors and inspect wires. Thanks for the replies.

I have a 99 workhorse chassis and my sensor is bad and no longer made. I hope you don't have the problem.

The sensors on a WH are easily accessible. First, look to make sure none of them are melted. Then push & twist to make sure they're all properly seated. They will space themselves out to the required .004 gap. Has yours already had the 51101-C recall done?

I just replaced a melted abs sensor on my '02 W22. It was easy, required no tools, and fixed my ABS light problem.

It has had the recall done. I just found the sensor is melted apart. Not broken. Now I need a part number. My AutoZone buddy says they have then but he could use the part number.

Received the new ABS sensor from OEM and installed it. Light is still on so he said to read the other sensors. So. Something to do this week. Hope its just one more bad sensor. This part changing troubleshooting can get expensive.

Know that it took some miles of driving for my light to go out. Not sure why, but it did not go out immediately.
To test, get the front wheels off the ground, unplug the NEW sensor from the harness and put an ohm meter on the leads, take a reading and record the results, then give the wheel a spin and take another reading and record those results.
Then do the same procedure on the other wheel. You should get similar numbers if you spin the wheel a similar speed.

Measure the resistance of the ABS sensor. It should read about 1100 ohms when working correctly. Just follow the wire to it's connector and unplug, measure it there. The light should go out after driving a few miles if every connector is OK.
