American Eagle 1998
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a 1998 American Eagle and am new to the forum. Unfortunately I came to realize that the Heart Interface Source Manager Inverter/Charger is shot. Xantrex doesn't seem to have an equivalent unit to replace it with. Does anyone have experience changing out this unit? If so, what is the recommended unit to swap in?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I have a 1999 Eagle with the same inverter / charger. At the FMCA rally in Springfield Mass. this past August, Xantrex dealer from NJ (I misplaced the business card) told me that there is a replacement. It is less than half the size and they could do the swap out. Ours is ancient but a very well built model. ARG - the manufacturer of our coach - will replace it for $5k+!! Xantrex website list Ct., Mass. and NJ for the northeast.
Are you sure its shot? I have been able to rescue mine a few times over the last 8 years.

Although My Eagle is much older I replaced mine with a Xantrex Prosine 1800 Inverter and a separate Xantrex Trucharge 40 Charger.

Since the Source Manager includes the transfer switch, did you install a new transfer switch wit the unit?

Unfortunately board is fried. Unit will no longer invert 12V to 120. Looks like I will replace entire unit since parts are pretty scarce.

I did change out the 50 amp Transfer switch all at the same time.
The reason is we had a severe lightning Storm here and I left it plugged into the shop and there was a strike - took out the Inverter/Both ac units and the 50 amp transfer SW.

If the unit is indeed a "Source Manager" call Kevin Mallory
419-852-0791
He put together the "Source Managers" when he was at Fleetwood.
When I had an issue with mine I talked to him and bypassed one circuit (over a year ago) and all has gone well since then. He has alternates that include the switching.
His pricing was reasonable but not cheap.
I am not endorsing him -- just saying that is an option you may want to investigate.
thx -- Dale

Thanks Dale,
I talked to Kevin last week. He has put together a kit to change unit over to a Magnum pure sine inverter/charger with the addition of an automatic transfer switch and a subpanel. The cost of the kit is $2500. I'll post pictures and an update once I receive it and do the install.

Kevin Mallory at Cruising America RV Service is your man for Source Manager replacements. And most other American Coach issues.
419-852-0791
He has many years of experience working on American Coach production and in their engineering department. If you get schematics for older AC coaches from them, you will see his name on the drawings. Plus he is an honest and ethical shop owner.

Thanks Gary. When I spoke to Kevin, it didn't seem to take him long to understand my issue. I'm looking forward to making the change.

Hey SamK - I seem to be in the same boat as you re: the heart interface freedom inv/conv. Wondering if you have progressed in the replacement. I am interested in install and pix.
Thanks.
