I am seriously considering selling the ole Bounder and buying a low mileage '04 Discovery with the CAT 330 HP. Asking price is $67,500 for the Discovery. Are there any known problems with either the Discovery or drivetrain setup I am looking at?

Hello,

We looked at a 2003 Discovery but found a excursion for close to your price point, paid a little more. Low miles new tires, you should check which I am sure you have. The cat ran effortlessly towing a ford edge. Power to spare was completely satisfied with the coach all amenities. Just traded for new 2012 providence 42M. You will love your coach which I feel is a good price. We did perform some much needed maintenance.

Good luck

Stump Jumper,
We have a friend that has the 04 39L. He has had some problems with it, but the only relatively serious problems had to do with the heavy old style TVs. The bedroom TV, because of weight, has actually broken the compartment base and pulled it loose of its frame. The front TV was loosening the overhead compartment. We replaced both TVs with LCD TVs and rebuilt the bedroom compartment to solve the problem. The other potential issue with those vintage Fleetwood products is the driver slide motor is relatively weak, and will burnoout easily. The best solution we have found is to lube the slide bearings, gears, and rollers regularly with spray silicone. We do this regularly on our 03 and our friend's 04, and have not had problems since.

Jim
