Right front jack will not extend. When hitting 'auto' on the control panel, the other 3 jacks extend ok. I hear a ratcheting sound, like slipping clutch and the right front jack will not extend.

On prior jack deployment the night before, I heard a disturbing binding sound in right front jack while extending it at an RV park. It did retract ok. But, on arrival home and extending jacks, the issue occured with the right front jack. No extension.

Before I begin analyzing the situation, I want to check this forum for information on how to proceed. The manual that came with the jacks has a caveat about manually extending/retracting any jack that gives off a ratcheting or clutch-slipping sound. Manual says, take it to an Atwood service center.

Any ideas how to proceed in order to avoid what I sense will otherwise be a large repair bill?

Thanks, one and all.

You might try extending the jack by taking a 3/8 drill with a 1/2 socket [i belive thats what fits the nut on the bottom of the motor] if fails to extend but turns freely then you have a broken gear, then you can take the jack off and access the gear from the top of the motor, not to hard of a job.I have a 05 32v and what your describing is what happen to me except mine was extended ans would not retrack. Mine was under warranty [extended warranty] . You are right they are expensive as they will want to replace the whole jack. You can call fleetwood customer service and order a set of gears for around $68.00 .so some posted that a while back. I took my jack apart and a machine ordered a gear for me, so now i have a extra one just in case another one goes out. the number for fleetwood that i have is 1 800 322 8216 have your vin# handy. hope this helps you mabry

Just had the same situation. Gears were broken in the head unit. You can get the gears from Atwood if you are mechinicaly inclined to replace them. Atwood technical support was very good to work out problems.

I have had similiar problems, usually retracting the passanger front. There is a single plug in the back of the jack control panel. Try unplugging it for a minute or two to let the computer reset itself.

Thank you JohnRR and Pacearow. I'll look for the plug in the control unit and try a system reset. Otherwise, we plan on pulling the jack off on Thrusday and investigating the gearing.
BTW, Atwood no longer sells this particular model. They say the new one "was round", whatever that means. My older model jack leg is square with a round pad (I tried to explain). Anyway, if I replace the jack apparently the replacement will not look like the original. That sucks.

Just last October. I had to have a jack rebuilt. The gears were all stripped. Atwood sent a set of new gears to my service provider. Then we found that the bracket was bent. Service took parts from three old jacks and rebuilt mine. But at that time Fleetwood did have new spare jacks from Fleetwood service parts. I do not remember the price, but I think it was $500 +.
