I installed large OD washers on the catches that are mounted to the body. I then trimmed the washers to just clear the latch. This gave me a better grip and stopped the latches from squirming out from under the catches.

The catches are adjustable in and out you can also buy new latches on Amazon. Are you sure the plunger is coming all the way out behind the catch. On a couple of my doors I have to push with my knee.
