Battery - Shore Power

I recently upgrade electrical power in my garage where I keep my 2005 Bounder 38N diesel. I wanted to know if I have it pluged in to electrical service, do I have to have the switches on the control panel turned-on? Does the inverter need to be ON to charge the batteries? Does the chassis batteries and coach batteries stay in the OFF position?

I'll try to help. I just purchased an 03' fleetwood excursion 39s. It is my understanding on my RV that when it is plugged into shore power the system charges my house batteries. I do shut my chassis battery off.

So l believe the inverter charges automatically when you are plugged into shore power. My house battery won't shut off when I'm plugged in. My inverter automatically turns on when I'm plugged in.

There are many ways to wire a motor home... IF YOU DO NOT have an inverter, odds are the converter is connected to the HOUSE side of the disconnect switch. So the batteries must be connected to operate

IF you DO have an inverter, and it is an "inverter/charger" (both units in one box or 2/3 of a UPS (the battery is the third third) then the charger module must be on, However the state of the battery disconnect may or may not matter, if it does, turn it on.

Example: I have a factory installed converter (one of the best made) it powers the house no matter if the batteries are connected or not.

I also have a Xantrex Prosine 2.0 inverter/charger (normally I disable the charger) it is connected directly to the batteries. (It too is a top level 3-stage charger but I like the other one better, they are both 3-stage +,, I just like Progressive Dynamics' "Plus" better, This is a personal choice)

I can't answer for your specific coach, but my 2004 Tradition inverter (Xantrex RV2500) always charges when shore power is available. The position of the inverter on/off switch makes no difference, nor does the battery disconnect. The inverter switch affects only inverting (not charging) and the disconnect is on the other side of the inverter wiring, so doesn't block charging wither.

What make/model of ineretr is it? That may be sufficient ionfo to answer your question.
