Bed Storage shocks

So, I'm in the process of prep'ing for our first excursion with the brand new toy and I pull up the mattress to remove the plastic wrapper and I find that all of the screws on one side of the hinge are ripped out.

I kinda wondered why the shocks didn't hold the storage cover very good...I actually only opened it once and only too peak inside and get a quick depth measurement, never really gave it a thought.

It appears that both the shocks were hyper extended and will not collapse. When the cover was closed with the shocks not working, the leverage was enough to rip the hinge screws out of the fake wood cover...nice, really nice.

Lesson offered to new buyers, look inside, under and over everything twice before you sign the paperwork. I though I did, but I think I should have gone back over everything at least twice.

Someone may have forced the platform down without using the "release" button thing on the left piston. I am usually the one digging under our bed for stuff, so recently when my hubby was under there he tried to force the bed down because he wasn't familiar with the release. He got yelled at.

Agree, that's what happened. A little two part epoxy or Marinetex will solve the issue. Clean out the damaged area, work the epoxy in. I actually use a drill bit to widen the damaged area. Either let dry, drill a pilot hole or set with epoxy curing. If your close to your dealer they will fix it your under warranty. One other note both Marinetex and J B Weld can be drilled and tapped using machine screws vs. Wood screws.

As mentioned above, look for the release button to get the cylinders to go back down. I recommend through bolting the cylinders to the bed base. Just drill a hole through the plywood where the screws pulled out and push a oval head machine screw (like a #10) with fender washer installed through from the mattress side. It will never pull out again.
