Booth to free standing table

Have a 2008 Discovery 40x with a dinette and would like a credenza with a free standing table. Any ideas where to start. Called Fleetwood and their quote was 5k. Thanks

I am working on an Excursion. The booth is on the slide and I dismantled it to prep for wood flooring. It is a fairly simple task to remove it. It is held in by screws. You can see the screws in the base and on the inside back is a piece of thin plywood. Pry that off and you will see the screws that attach the back to the wall. The whole business is pretty light weight. You will loose your 2 drawers- but thats the only drawback. Ernie

Every manufacturer has what you want at their price. If you want to pay out of sight prices, that is. Fortunately, there are alternatives who price things right.

It is easy to go to a booth. To go to a table and chairs is harder, because the booth has to have cutouts in the trim on the walls. You can buy the furniture from Bradd and Hall.

Go down to Newmar Quick Tips item #3 and see what I did for wife.

I had the table and chairs but after you pull out dinette you should be able to do same.
If your floor is built up it could be difficult, my slide ,if you have one, is flat floor.

Getting your booth out should not be a problem. I have no idea what you will find underneath but if it is unsightly then you will have to deal with it whatever it is.

I made my own credenza. I left the strange looking overhanging table because I wanted the room beneath for extra kitchen storage. Most people would not like it but we do. My wife has a traveling consulting business so we needed a computer desk and table etc;

However there is hardware to allow a table to fold into the credenza. Your MH is much larger and the slideout floor flatter no doubt so you should be able to adapt easily to the space. I work with wood and make furniture etc; however making the credenza is not a hugh challenge for someone with average skills and a modest assortment of wood working tools. A router is of particular importance, much of the other sizing requirements can be purchased off the shelf depending on what design you come up with. If you cannot make it yourself try local cabinet makers or people advertising their skills---designing and making your own to fit would be optimal and for the basic credenza it should not be that expensive.

Good luck hope this helps a little.

Nice job, very professional looking. Probably built better than factory unit.

Not sure how feasible it is but I'd probably put a message on craigslist or ebay classifieds asking if someone with a similar motor home (Discovery, Excursion, Expedition, Bounder diesel, etc of similar years) would like to switch.

Even if that doesn't pan out, I suspect it wouldn't be too hard to find someone that wants your old booth (I'm always looking at used units to upgrade and while I wouldn't rule a mh simply because it has free standing table, I'd want to put a booth in so would buy someone else's booth). As long as you have the space to keep it for a while, I'm sure you'll find a buyer.

njs42 - I love your mod...I have been trying to talk DH into swapping out the booth for a table, but he worries about losing the storage space, but your mod handles that situation flawlessly! I never thought about a credenza with a folding table! thanks

one thing to consider is having to tie down the chairs when mobile.
