Bounder AC service

I have read the threads on cleaning the roof AC's....how do I check the freon, I don't see anywhere to attach the gauges? The small copper line is very hot, is that to be expected? I found what looks to be a filter that was sucked up into the upper cover, so I know I have to replace filters.

checking ac

there no Freon valves on that ac it left the factory as a sealed system the small tube will be hot. easiest way to check Freon is with it running on high fan is the cooling coil sweating all over and back to the compressor if it is your Freon is ok

So if there is no sweating does that mean freon could be low and that's the end of life for the unit?

It does not sweat right away. Let it run for several minutes and it should start sweating. The large line (suction line) will be cold and the small line(liquid line) will be hot to the touch.

Is the unit putting out cold air? If you have a thermometer measure the room temp and measure the supply air temp. The supply (cold) air should be at least 15 degf to 20 degf difference.
