Hi, we have a 2004 Bounder and are thinking of taking out the hanging TV cabinet from the front overhead and putting a smaller ('thinner') cabinet in place for an LCD-LED flat screen. Any suggestions, directions and PICS would be appreciated.

I just finished putting a 37" LED TV in our 2006.
I didn't want to tear out the existing cabinets so I hung the TV on an articulating swingarm on the front of the cabinet, mostly because I wanted access to the new storage area behind the new TV. The actual mounting surface is recessed by 2 1/2 inches. The new TV sticks out less than 1/4" more than the trim that was around the old TV, but because the TV has a different aspect ratio I was able to hang it high enough that there is probably less of a chance of getting 'bonked' coming in the door. But just in case I put in a padded panel under the TV.
I have pictures. Hit me with your email address.

This is what our front install looks like. I'm having trouble finding a suitable verneer to dress up the two small bits of 3/4 plywood that are still visible. For the parts that actually touch the TV (while strapped down for travel) I want to find a somewhat slippery and soft plastic. The padded (Bonker) bar under the TV serves two purposes: It covers up the hole left by the difference in aspect ratios, and it doesn't hurt ones head quite so much as the Maple trim that used to be there. (I discovered this within a couple of hours of installing it......)
Both cabinets can be opened without moving the TV. And there is a good storage area behind the TV for the custom sized quilted travel cover my DW is busy making.
I REALLY LIKE the crown moulding idea in the bedroom! I can't use it because I don't have enough room over the window for a decent sized TV But the idea occured to me that the swing out cabinet would make a GREAT wine rack if you put glass of some sort on the front.

Not going to remove the cabinet but the tv is coming out. Took the oak surround around the tv off and having a new oak cabinet door made that will swing upward and then will finish the inside of the cabinet with some vinyl to match the outside or at least close in color. Intend to use cabinet for dvd's etc. Really thinking of just setting the new LCD tv on the dash when at our destination. I feel that having it lower will allow for a better viewing experience. We'll see after everything comes together as to the actual placement of the tv. I feel not having it mounted gives us the opportunity to move around if desired to some different locaitons. When travelling the tv can either stand next to the sofa or lay on the bed in the back.

OK, one of the things I learned from installing an LCD TV in our previous RV is that when 'that' TV dies the one you replace it with will end up mounting an inch or two in any direction. I devised an elegant if not too artfully executed adjustible mount. The 'floating' plate for the swingarm mount is held in place by carriage bolts and wing nuts. I've already made adjustments to the TV position using this arrangement and I didn't even have to remove the TV. As you can see I used a couple of pieces of 3/4 ply to reinforce the top & bottom of the cabinet. Probably not necessary for such a light TV but I did it anyway. All of these pieces were either made by hand or on a radial arm saw. If I had a working router it would have been much prettier.

Gave the old clunker of a tv to some very nice Mexican people while in California. I hated that huge weight over the dash when we were on the road. I have a flat screen picked out, and a way to mount it, but I am looking for ideas for securing the unit whil driving down the road. We have a 2008 Bounder with the Ford chassis, and the front suspension is really a hard ride.

I've found that two straps keep it 95% imobile. For the remaining 5% I installed a partial front on the cabinet and used 'Industrial Strength' velcro between the partial front and the TV. I think the velcro might be capable of holding the TV up all by itself! It takes a firm tug to pull the TV out now. I will replacing the swingarm in the not so distant future.
I'm really glad I made the mount the way I did because I'm not at all happy with the swingarm I bought. EVERY time I move the TV I have to reset the vertical angle in order to get it to fit flush against the cabinet. I have tightened the pivot point to the point that I'm forried about the bolt breaking and it still does not hold well enough.
I do not recommend this mount "VideoSecu Articulating TV Wall Mount for 22-37"
