change from queen to king

We need to change from a queen (not a short queen) to a king bed. We have the room if we get rid of the side cabinets. Does anyone know whats behind the side cabinets?
How hard it will be to remove them? Are they screwed in? Will we be removing anything essential to the support of the slides?
In other words, any help anyone can be, please post. We have a 2009 Bounder 35H.
It looks like we'll have to move the 2 electrical outlets.
I know someone will mention this, we already contacted Fleetwood. They go by the book, and said they can't do it. Thats why we want to do it ourselves, ( or find someone that can do it) making the necesssary changes as we see fit.

RaynMary,

There is nothing behind the night stands in our coach. except the 120V outlets. In our case the night stands are screwed in and would be easy to remove. I don't know about your specific coach, but I suspect they are done in a similar way. You rmay have to remove the finishing panel (we did when we removed our booth) to see the attaching screws.

I removed one of those cabinets on our 33C in order to fit an additional outlet. All you need to do is open the door and locate and remove three cross head screws at the back. Then, using a craft knife, slice the caulk seal between the nightstand and the wall. You may find some cables threaded through the cabinet support frame and either the frame or the cables will need to be cut to complete the job. Good luck!

Thanks, very helpful info. We were ready to start the project last night! But we have to wait until we get home.

We took the valances down, the day/night shades came down with them. We're going to put up mini blinds. The cabinets came out very easily. A few screws, and they slid out.
We order the bed. We're getting two foam twins with a gel foam topper, which will much easier to get into the mh. The shop that sells them also makes them there. They're going to make the 74" wide instead of 76" wide, to fit in easier.
Thanks for all your help.

In Lagrange, Illinois. It's Quality Sleep Shop, 708-246-2224. The salesperson was extremely helpful. She made several suggestions, worked with us to help us decide what would work best.

Are you removing the queen platform and replacing it with two twin beds ? Will it be the same or longer length ?

They will be the same length as the queen 80". Instead of 76" wide like a regular king, it'll be 74" wide.

The length of the platform will stay the same. We're making some benches ( best description I can think of) to put on the sides, to give support to the extra width of the beds.
We can lay the benches on the bed when we travel. we moved the outlets that were in the side cabinets to the wall next to the headboard. We just put them in surface mount outlet boxes. After we get the beds in, we have small shelves to put on the side walls.

Thanks. I was wondering how you were going to accomplish this mod. The slideout mechanism is under that platform and may have to be accessed someday. I was also concerned with the length as this would impede the room needed for the slideout when retracted. Looks like you've done a good job on your planning. Good luck and enjoy.
