Combination switch refers to the controls mounted to the steering column. It's usually a combination of turn signals, cruise, high beams, called combination switch for short.
If he rang it out with a meter and found something wrong with it then okay, if he just through it out their as comment without checking anything then he's just guessing.
They do go bad, and it is the most used part in the system, so not a bad guess if you didn't want to pay for troubleshooting.
When I bought my coach cruise didn't work , ended up being a pin pulled out of connector on column. Think dealer disconnected on purpose so new driver couldn't use cruise control?
