..........I only wanted to know if anyone knew how to remove the doghouse on my 1997 southwind, I got only 3 replies, and I don't think they even have or have owned one like mine.
No guess work here............does anyone know for sure ? I sure would appreciate anyone who knows for sure.

David,
I've never owned a Southwind but my 1983 Coachman had 2 rubber latches on the end of the doghouse towards the center of the MH and once released the cover was tipped up and pulled back to remove. The front of it tucked up under the dash.

Most others I've seen have similar latches or bolts down thru brackets on the sides. They may be covered by the carpeting. Try pulling the carpet back around the edges and I suspect you will find the bolts holding the cover in place.

There are basically two different ways to remove a dog house...

On a Van conversion, you will have two latches, one one either side and 1, 2 or 3 other latches which are often burried in carpet, these take a socket wrench of screwdriver.

On a motor home where the doghouse cover is FLAT you usually have a large round key (The part that goes into the lock is round) this will fit 2,3 or 4 latches round the inside perimeter of the cover. ALL must be unlocked.

David, have you considered contacting Fleetwood? Hopefully someone there may recall how to remove the doghouse on older Fleetwood coaches.

I wish you luck,,,

Good idea. Since nobody seems to have your model, the only thing you will get from us is guess work, and it's worth what you are paying for it.

David. I have a 98 Pace. On mine, you remove the drawer from the cabinet on the doghouse. Inside are two wingnuts. Remove these. Remove the cabinet. Next to the floor, at the back of the doghouse, are two twist locks. turn these and lift the cover. (the southwind is the twin sister of the pace arrow)

I had a 96 Southwind but that was 11 years ago and my memory is vague. As I recall, it had a twist latch of some sort in the front corners but they were buried in the carpet. By 'front' I mean those closest to the seats.

On my 83 Pace Arrow there are 4 pull tees, that hooks into a slot on the doghouse, the tee looks similar to ones I have seen on jeeps that hold the hood down, and made of metal, on mine the are chromed.

So the dog house is the cover over the motor? I had no idea, I'm sitting in mine right now, I'll go look. Also, are we talking complete removal or just being able to flip it up to access the motor. If we're just flipping it up there are two latches towards the back (of the MH)of the cover on each side of the cover and then it hinges up towards the front (of the MH).

95 Southwind on the F53 chassis. Going to look now.

Got side tracked but I just checked.

There are the two clips that allow you to flip the cover up. The cover is then held on by two hinges. The hinges have a pin in them that is shouldered on one end and has a cotter pin through the other. I would assume you just pull the cotter and hammer out the pin. Should come right off after that.

Hope this helps.
