Dirty Ice -- Need Suggestions Please

My wife and I have a 2007 Pace Arrow with a Dometic side by side fridge that has a built-in ice maker. The coach has a water filtration system and is providing clean, drinkable water at all faucets but the ice maker is producing little bits of black gunk in the ice. I have tried sterilizing the water system through normal means, but this doesn't seem to help the ice maker and it continues to make gross looking ice despite the fact that it has been running for several weeks. I would be most grateful for any suggestions on how I can cure this. Thank you in advance!

The Teflon coating on the ice maker mold is probably deteriorating; flaking off. You will need to pull the ice maker and replace it if this is the case.

To expand on what RV Wizard said, the next time your tray fills and before the water freezes, take a small mirror and look at the surface of the ice mold. It should be a uniform dark color. If it is blotchy, the anti-stick coating is coming off as Wizard says, and the icemaker will need to be replaced.

Lowe's sells replacement icemakers for some models of residential fridges. Some of these models will also work in the RV refrigerator. I bought the model for a Whirlpool, and it was almost an exact replacement for the one on our Norcold 1200. I had to take the plastic water guide off the old icemaker and put it on the new one because the Norcold icemaker sits in the freezer sideways and the water comes into the tray from a different direction than if the icemaker were mounted front to back. Otherwise, everything else (including the plug) was the same.

Thank you, Wizard and Paz. I really appreciate the suggestions -- I will check that out and hopefully that will solve it. Thanks again!
