Discovery 40G Shakedown Run Tommorow

First trip tomorrow to the Rodman Campground near Ocala. Put my new memory foam topper on the bed last night and checked out the satellite dish. Everything else seems to work, but you never know till you test things.

Supposed to be very cold (for Florida at least). Good thing the heat works!

So today's weather calls for rain, possible severe thunderstorms, high winds and possible tornados. Great driving weather!

Low 30's/high 20" in Ocala tomorrow. Brought lots of fire wood. I already know the heat works. Think I'll wait a bit and see if some of this rain blows by. Looks like its already clearing in Ocala, but the I-4/75 corridor looks nasty right now.

At the Rodman campground now and the trip has been smith so far with one exception, after I checked in at the campground office I found a 3" crack in my windshield. Mercer heard anything hit, but you can see a small ding at the head of the crack. I had a chip in my excursion windshield this summer. Luckily I was able to get that filled. I doubt this can be fixed.

Oh yea, it's actually snowing here in Palatka. Just barely visible, but definite snow flakes.

I made it back in one piece. With the exception of the cracked windshield, things went pretty well more or less. Things I found that need fixing:(besides the windshield)

1) the leveling alarm kept going off. The dealer told me they added fluid, but every time I'd make a left turn the leveling panel would make an audible alarm and flash. When I went to pack up this morning the alarm would not shut off when I put it in drive and took the parking brake on. Way too annoying to drive with so I unscrewed the control panel and took the connector off. The jack's were fully retracted, so I figured I wouldn't break anything. When I got home I added some Dextron III and filled it to the very top. Everything seemed fine after that.

2) the radiator overflow tank doesn't seem as full as my excursion was. I asked them to add antifreeze at the dealer, and I'm pretty sure they did, but it still seemed low again. Maybe the cold temps? I tried to take the pressure cap off to look in the tank. It turned 90 degrees but would not come off. I didn't want to force it while I was away from home. I'll have to keep an eye on this.

3) The zone one furnace won't stay lit. It would click from the igniter, you could hear the flame light, and then after a few seconds the flame would go out and it would try to light again. I'm thinking maybe a bad thermocouple.

4) I really like the way it drives. Much smoother and quieter than my excursion. More power too. Never even know the CRV was back there. Quite a beast when all hooked up. 60 feet long. Seems to shift a bit rougher than the excursion. I need to make sure it's got full trans fluid. Also seems to vibrate a bit around 40-45 mph. Smooths out at 50.

Got about 7.5 MPG. The computer was saying 8.3. I'll have to see what it looks like over time.

Got another trip to the magic kingdom next week. Then I'll have to take it in to get the few things I've found fixed at the dealer and get the windshield replaced. Big trip to the keys in March. Should be a blast.

Well, not new. Gently used. Good luck with your expedition.
