Do I need a surge protector?

I have a 2006 American tradition. I have been told I have a surge protector on board. Is it necessary or recommended to have another surge protector where you plug in?

We had internal surge protection built into ATS but always use an EMS, too. Power surges are only one of the conditions that can damage you coach. An EMS does a lot more protection than just surge protection. We use one of these every time we plug in: Progressive Industries RV Surge and Electrical Protection

Cheers,

The odds of an electrical surge are extremely low. The odds of high voltage, low voltage, incorrect voltage and bad Neutrals very high. Only an Electrical Management System (EMS) will protect you

Will the Camco 55313 125/250V 50M/50F do the same thing?
How do they differ?

THanks for your patience with me.

the Camco 55313 is a surge protector. An EMS with be in the $300 range.

As I said before, a surge protector doesn't provide much insurance. Only an EMS does.

This is not something to be cheap about.

We all have opinions and they are worth what you are paying for them. Call the AC tech line and get the correct info for your specific coach: 800-435-7345.

You don't need anything additional. Your 2006 Tradition has a complete power protection system built in, at least as good as any add-on you can buy. In addition to surge protection, it has high& low voltage monitoring, checks for proper outlet wiring, power frequency checks, etc.

My 2004 has the same thing, built into the auto transfer switch so that it monitors all incoming power.
