Electric Swing Arm TV (next to Hid-a-loft bed)
Just encountered a good one. After having returned from a previous trip a few months ago, I was having some minor house batteries issues. When I thought it was solved I decided to test by engaging the motorized swing arm tv which is over the copilot seat on the passenger side wall. Did not work. Checked fuse in 12v fuse box in br, it was fine. A little flumuxed I consulted my schematics and discovered another fuse in compartment under steps next to house batteries. It was blown. Replaced fuse and tried again and it blew again. Believing I had a short, looked around tv swing arm mounting and discovered that the last time I closed it a wire got scrunched between the two metal parts thus shorting the system and blowing the fuse. Contacted FW again for name of mfg of swing arm system. Turns out it is FW who custom made the system themselves. They sent me a copy of the plans but it doesn't show the motor. I felt there had to be some way to disconnect the arm from the bracket when there was a problem. Nope. After a day and a half fighting it, several rounds of language learned after 20 years in the navy, stopping and starting for various reasons, I was finally successful in getting the crimped/shorted wire fixed and it works not albeit in several pieces that I have to reassemble and correct some bad design issues. So here goes in order of disassembly;
1. Remove TV from bracket while it is against the wall. Trying to get behind it to remove 4 screws was a bear.
2. There are two bolts on the top of the bracket. Looking at it against the wall the one on the far right is the pivot bolt, 10 in long and you only have 9 inches above the brkt to the headliner. They should have inserted from the bottom with the nut on top.
3. Of the two bolts the one on the left holds the motor in place. One would think you unbolt and you're good to go. Wrong, they secured it with a locking nut inside the bracket. Once this bolt was removed after taking the whole thing apart the motor would swing out of the way. Suggest replacing the locking nut with something else.
4. Obviously this was installed before the headliner and loft bed was installed. Not a bad design but could use some refinements.
Oh yea forgot to mention when swinging tv back in place before traveling, double check that wire is not hanging down and in a position to get crimped.
Another tidbit is the outlet the front tv is plugged into goes dead when driving so if you have some in the dinette that wants to watch a movie run an extension cord to a different outlet and plug tv into that. Attached is a picture from the back of the swing arm showing the motor and the long bolt on the top left.
