Ground wire may float when using the generator (That is it is not bonded to neutral) so you WILL get a voltage reading (normally 60) Between neutral and ground, as well as hot to ground.

Also,, "Hot" and "Neutral" are meaningless on a 120 volt AC generator.

Neutral is only meaningful IF the ground is bonded to it.. Which is not required in this case.

OR where you have a "Voltage divided" (as in 120/240/120 volt (Shore power 50 amp) systems

120 volt hot (Black or red) to neutral and 230 volt black to red (or black 1 to black 2)

But the generator, even if it has two legs.. Odds are they are both the same 120 volt leg and thus "Hot" and "Neutral" are meaningless terms. it's all hot. Or rather very warm.

That could have been deadly if the white neutral wire was also connected to the ground of your MH panel...it would make everything in your coach hot....very good that you caught that before someone got hurt.
