Hello everyone:
I'm in the process of purchasing a "2008" Excursion 40X. It has an 8.3L ISC Cummins engine. Freightliner chassis. 12,700 miles. Seems to have been very well taken care of. Test drove it and it seems to be pretty smooth, though I can't really compare it as it's the only time and only one I've ever driven. It has alot of bells & whistles, & seems like a geat coach.
However I'm brand new at this and this site, so if there's any "Excursionites" out there or anyone who would care to comment, advise, share experience etc. It would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks Glider

Discovery's, Excursions and Provedance are basically all on the same platform. Disco's have the large ISB, which seems underpowered. The ISC should give plenty of go. 40X is a great floor plan. My only concern would be the weight of the rig. That's a big rig without a tag. good luck

I have the Providence 40X with the 8.3 ISC motor and it drives great no stability issues for size without a tag axle and plenty of power I think it is the perfect match up. The only issue I have had is with the Powergear electric leveling jacks but I have that all figured out now and they work flawlessly now.

I have to agree with Daytripper on the ride and stability. We had the Providence 40X, 2009, before trading for our 42W Revolution and found no problems with the handling or ride of the 40X. Of course we could tell a totally different ride with the tag on our 42W but I wouldn't sell the 40X short. (really miss our outdoor kitchenette too)

Hey Daytripper: Thanks, but what problem did you have with jacks & what did you do to solve the problem?

Power gear has I feel gotten a very bad rap for there electric jacks because no shops had a clue how to work on them let alone why they were failing since they were something new. There is about 50 pages on this forum in the fleetwood class A forum if you search it, but in condensed form the main problem appears to be the rubber boot that goes over the electric jack motors and in the rear the jack motor is directly behind the rear wheels and the mud flap does stops short of protecting the jack motor so at the factory they only used a metal wire tie to hold on the rubber boot and when driving in the rain the splash from the rear tires would spray on the boots which had a tendency to leak and allow water into the motor brake assembly. plus road debris can damage the rubber boot and cut it which allows water in again. What I did is silicone seal the top of the rubber boot where it meets the motor and I wrapped a piece of heavy mil tape around the rubber boot to protect it from any cuts that may happen from road debris. I have considered extending the mud flap to reach farther in so it covers the jack but they have been operating flawlessly. I cant say I would let this stop me from buying a coach. Here is a link to the forum I mentioned, dont let they 45 pages of post scare you, most of them are just us chatting.
Power Gear jack problem

Hi Glider, Good luck with your Excursion. I bought a 2007 40E last year and love it. It had 13,000 mi. on it. We now have 19,000 on it. We just got back from Wyoming & Idaho and everything except the leveling jack worked perfect. The extension on the right rear just dropped to the ground. The bering that is welded to a plate broke the welds. I took the RV to a repair shop in Idaho. PJ'S Specialties in Caldwell. Patrick came 30 miles to where we were staying figured he needed to do the repairs in his shop. We drove it back to his shop, he removed the jack, disassembled it, found the problem, and repaired it, only after finding out the company that made it would only sell the whole jack at $900.00 and wait 10 days to ship it. Patrick only charged $275.00 for the whole job. Great Job and a great RV. Sorry to run on but I needed to give Kudos to PJ'S.

Sorry for the late responce!
Well it's done! Got the Excursion 40X the 29th of last month and my honey and I LOVE IT!! We took a 3-day "mini" trip this past weekend to Nashville TN. to watch the Bengals & Titans play. It did'nt take long for us to realize that this is gonna work! We loved it! We're planning a trip to warmer places in about a month, for a couple of months. Gotta get a dolly for the motorcycle & car. But one-thing-at-a-time.
Thanks for askin' & good luck and good travelin' to you all!
Glider

P.S. The Bengals won 24-17
