I have a 2010 Bounder 35H. After starting the engine, I can smell exhaust up front by the dash front captain chairs area. The dealer had it checked for exhaust leaks. The Ford dealer, a 2011 Ford chassis, checked it and found no exhaust leaks. Why do I smell exhaust? Where can it come from?

novi2some,
You have to go under your Bounder, while engine is on, and see for yourself.
Check from the headers all the way back to the tail pipe. Have your honey sit in the captains chair and run engine at 2200 rpm, unless you are at odds!

Never Ever crawl under your coach when the engine is running. I don't care how much you trust the person in the driver seat. Trust me, I know from experiance. I was run over by my buddies Pace Arrow while attempting to jump the starter motor. Luckily not to much damage was done. I ended up with a dislocated shoulder and a large Knot on my head. If you can open up the engine enclosure you can use a piece of water hose a couple of feet long to amplify any exhaust leak noise. Just put one end of the hose to your ear and search around the exhaust manifold for leaks.

Sammie,
Hope you have another buddy now who likes you more!
My comments still stand: The only way to find the exhaust leak is either pay someone to check or do it yourself. Checking the smell from above gets you nothing but the smell. You must see where you are checking and feel the hot air flow from the breached area. Check exhaust from engine to tail pipe.
I know it's scary for you and it's uncomfortable for me but someone needs to check exhaust because that's where the smell is, most likely, coming from.

Sammie's friend I hope,
Steve

2011 chassis? How many miles are on it.
New exhaust pipes have a cosmoline coating that will burn off usually within 1,500 miles. It keeps the exhaust from rusting during assembly and when sitting on the dealers lot.
If thats not the problem, check for any signs of oil or trans fluid leaks. A hot engine or exhaust pipe will cause a burning smell if there are any fluids leaking onto it.

Hi John,
Modern exhaust systems are stainless steel which do not rust and need no coatings.
Novi2some has a 2010 Fleetwood Bounder with a 2011 Ford chasis.
You may be right to check for fluids dripping and vaporizing on a hot part of the exhaust system.
