Looks like the buyer, AIP, is a modest size vulture capital firm. They appear to have mostly done business-to-business industrial acquisitions, then done the plain vanilla cost reduction/roll-up (layoffs/supplier hammering/acquisition of competitor firms to reduce competition & broaden product offerings) type of management, followed by flipping the business in a hopefully more favorable market "exit" strategy.

What's odd here is that they don't appear to have any experience in consumer products businesses. Their prior customers appear to be entirely industrial firms & govt operations (Collins Industries, one of their owned firms at the moment, makes ambulances, small buses, and industrial type tractor vehicles; E-One, another in AIP's stable, makes fire trucks & special purpose municipal trucks). So AIP's usual customer is very different from the average illiterate slob on the street (like me) buying a motorhome. Hopefully "cost control" won't get in the way of putting out quality products.

My understanding is AIP is composed of a group of engineers which could be a big help to the Fleetwood motor home division. I agree that quality and cost controls are vital to the revival of the Fleetwood RV division.

AIP is an equity capital firm, pure and simple. They do, however, employ of staff of skilled professionals (called an Advisory Board) who can assist the companies they invest in at the management level. Here is what AIP says about them:

The Partners and Advisory Board members of American Industrial Partners have diverse backgrounds with complementary operating, technical, and financial expertise. AIP professionals have individual expertise in operating and technical areas including quality systems, product development and planning, engineering effectiveness, global manufacturing and procurement, equipment effectiveness, plant consolidations, ERP implementations, and project management.
I would not expect them to do any line engineering functions, e.g. design a improved widget for a motorhome.
