I agree w/Dick. On mine it was just a wore out Alternator. Installed a remanufactured 200 Amp, which is what was in it.

I went through three alternators in one year....ended up being a bad battery (coach) causing it.

I have a 2002 Discovery with a 330hp cat, my battery light and ABS light came on and my voltage gauge went over to 17 volts positive. i took a trip from Ga to DC and everything was fine. When i cranked it to take another trip a week later this is when all this started. Any ideas?

Camaro Kid! The biggest problem is generally the Ground connections. Clean the connections on the alternator and the ground connections at all the battery connections grounds and positive sides. Remover the grounds first and remember where each wire was connected. ( take a picture of everything before removing any of the cables and label them in some manner if you have a short memory like me at times)
The ground connection at the alternator needs to be very good to keep the regulator working! when you have high output this is generally the cause of the 17+ reading.
There have been post's regarding defective batteries,but your problem showed up after a trip and when the coach had been setting a short time.Chech the grounds first it could save you some $$$
Also ! have you checked the water levels in the batteries? This can kill the batteries.

Reading this post made me feel good. I have a 01 37K Bounder, that this just happened too. I went camping last week with no problems. This week the dash went dead while driving. Then the transmission changed from 6 to 4 on its own. I pulled over and added two quarts of transmission fluid, and started the generator and everything worked. On the way home had the same problem, so had to drive with the generator running again. This all started with me installing two new starter batteries. Now I'm wondering if I installed the correct batteries. I installed 31 series from SAMS. I plan to take to cummins to check the alternator and batteries. Any other suggestions.

Chuck, This is an area that I just had problems. The alternator would work fine when cool,Note I did clean all the connections on the Alternator and Batteries.
When things got hot the alternator voltage would go up to 17+.
The alternator was disassembled,the regulator was removed and there where pit marks around the area of the mounting screws,on the metal heat sink.
When the alternator got hot there was arcing at these points,causing the voltage to vary erratically and finely cause the system to fail!! only to work again when cool.
If this is your finding, could you post a picture showing the pitted areas in detail.

Bob, do you have a 130 amp alternator on your unit? Fleetwood put out a bulletin advising owners to increase there alternators to the 160 size minimum!!

I burned up 3 of the 130 size before going to the 160 size on my Bounder.
