Fleetwood Discovery Carbon Monoxide Detector Replacement
Hello,
We have a 2004 Fleetwood Discovery 39L and are needing to replace the Carbon Monoxide Detector. What is the difference between an RV CO Detector vs. a regular home CO Detector? Ours is hardwired into our bedroom wall and we want to make sure we purchase the right one. It is a Costar model. Do we have to purchase an RV one and can it be battery operated rather than hardwired?
Thank you for your help,
Gus and Susi

We replaced our with this battery operated one we got from Amazon.
Just took the hard wired one off the wall, taped up the 12v wire ends/shoved them back in the hole & put this one on top of the hole left by the other one.

I replaced mine last year for the exact Fleetwood factory replacement. Was like $59.00 off Ebay. (Twice that at an RV dealer.) The type of CO gases are generally different in an RV, with gas and diesel combustion engines, versus Natural gas is the primary in residential. Attached garages can add another dimension to the gases, but that was not my concern or part of the logic I used in this replacement.
Right or wrong I am not sure, but for the money I have a factory flush mounted unit that looks like it belongs and not a bump on the wall that looks like it came from WalMart.
Good luck,
Sam

Our Trek has two factory installed hard wired detectors; one flush in the ceiling, and one flush in a wall at floor level. I just replaced the floor detector with the same model, but didn't think of checking ebay https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The detector instructions say to replace after 5 years, but the failure alarm didn't go off until 7 years past it's label date (Wife, walking by the motorhome in it's cover in the driveway:"What's that noise?")

Here's my thoughts on this. Ebay and Amazon (and others) are rife with vendors selling counterfeit merchandise. You name it, it's been counterfeited. If the deal is too good to be true (half price) I'd be suspect. Especially with something as critical as a CO detector. Buy from a reputable source.
