Fleetwood Excursion, little red "button" lights on rear of rig

iRV2 Forum Brain Trust-

I just noticed one of those little red "button" lights on the roofline of the rear of the rig burned out (see picture).

I have never changed them before. What's the trick to getting access to the bulb?

Bonus if you can save me from having to hunt through my three ring binder full of manuals and tell me what type of bulb to use.

Double bonus if you can recommend a good replacement LED bulb.

Thanks!

Thanks Chief! That is very appreciated!

If anyone can tell me how to get those lenses off on the clearance lights (I didn't know they were called that BTW), that would be helpful. I'd like to avoid breaking the lenses when putting my new LEDs in : )

Call REV and get their parts department to order a new one (or two, if you want a spare). Those lights are only about $5 each, and REV charges $10 shipping. They are sealed units, not a bulb inside a lens. They have a rubber grommet around the light. You can just pry the old one out and pull out the cord. They have bullet connectors on the wires, and you just unplug the old one and plug in the new one. Just don't let go of the wire coming out of the rear cap and let it fall back inside while you are doing that.

OK, thanks. So the clearance lights referred to in the manual must be the ones that run along the length of the RV I guess.

Do you know if there is a LED substitute for this sealed unit?

Only the outside 2 are required. 3 middle ones are decorative. How often do you drive at night?

Often enough, but regardless, if something is broken I like to fix it.

I just ordered two from Fleetwood today. It was $17.95 including tax and shipping for two of those red lights.

If they were not required, do you think that every manufacture would spend the extra $1 each to install them?

I replaced the red button light a few days ago.

FYI in case anyone reads this thread wanting to know how to replace the light:

The red button lights pull straight out. The rubber grommet is what holds them in place, so if you take a plastic blade so you don't scratch the fiberglass you can just pull the light out. The rubber grommet will come out with the bulb.

You then have to carefully pull more wiring out of the hole until you see the little plug. The new light has a male plug I believe, so you just unplug the old light and plug in the new one. Don't let the female end of the wire fall into the hole when it is unplugged from the light! The new light will come with a new rubber grommet, too. Don't forget to put the new grommet around the wire before you plug the new light in. I wrapped the plug in electrical tape to offer a little protection to the plug.

Easy job.
