We just bought a 2008 Fleetwood Discovery 40X from the big dealer in Tampa Bay, Florida. It came with 5 TV's which we were told were HD and could be connect to satellite with all TV's on different channels. Wrong on both accounts. The TV's are HD but the internal cables are not. The satellite dish has two leads so only two TV's can be hooked up. Just called the dealers sales department and they still say all TV's can be hooked up on satellite and on separate channels with HD. Has anyone else bought their coach based on this misleading information?

What kind of dish is on your Discovery? Are you wanting Dish Network or DirecTV? What cables are you talking about?

This information is important for us to know to give you accurate answers. There are a lot of things you can do though. I have installed 4 televisions, with 4 different recievers on a houseboat that had a KVH Dome with a single RG6 into the cabin with one of the receivers being a HD reciever. My point is that you can do a lot with wiring. If you let us know what you have, and what you want, I think we can get you there.

They are not lying.
You just need a separate receiver (Supplied by your satellite provider, DirecTV, Dish, ect.) for each TV.

Thanks for asking your questions. We have a KVH TracVision R5, want Direct TV, and the cables are from the KVH to a junction box in near one of the TV's

Okay. One big thing is that DirecTV has/is moving thier HD programming to 2 new satellites that your R5 will not pick up. These satellites broadcast in KA, and your dish will only pick up KU signals. So, that is one problem. As far as how to get programming to all 5 tv's and each being able to watch different programming, you have a couple of options. You can come in with a single RG6 into a multi-switch and then out to your different recievers, or you can go directly from the dish to each of the receivers. If you truly want DirecTV HD, you will need either the Winegard automatic or the MotoSAT HD-SL5 which is fully automatic and locks onto all 5 satellites at the same time. It has 4 outputs, so you can run to 4 different receivers or to 2 dual tuner receivers etc. Anyway, what you want to do can be done, but not with the dish you currently have. Your dish would work for DishNetwork HD since it broadcasts only on KU band signals.

Sorry to have to tell you that.

DiscoveryX,
Sales people are very good at giving you "almost" the correct information. With your current setup it is very likely that you will be able to watch a different over-the-air HDTV program on each TV. For the most part, the very best selection of HDTV programming is available here. The problem is that if you are not near an HD signal then this option is useless.
If you want to be able to watch a different channel on different TV's then you MUST have a separate satellite TV receiver for each TV. This receiver must also have its own dedicated coax cable(s) from the satellite TV antenna. As Jamie has indicated, there is NO domed satellite TV antenna on the market that can receive the new DTV HD programing as it is broadcast in the KA band.
Depending upon how your coach was originally wired you may be able to get rid of your dome (no in-motion TV) and install the Winegard or MotoSAT 5 LNB dish. This will give you almost all of what you are looking for. The MotoSAT HD-SL5 has 4 outputs which will power 4 separate receivers (add a splitter to one receiver output to the 5th TV) or 1 DVR and 2 standard receivers, or 2 DVR's.

Jamie and Bill:

Thanks again for your advice. It is apparent that I did not know enough at the time of purchase to understand that what I was being told was false. We will continue to try to work it out with the dealer but so far our coach has been at their service center for a week and nothing has been done.

Don't feel bad. It can be difficult to keep up with everything, especially with the changes that are being made lately. I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your dealer. By the way, are you in Pinellas County or up in North Florida?

RV sales people not really knowing how the six figure products they are selling really work? What a shock!

Unfortunately, you need to know a lot more than most of them to compete in this "sport"! TV and satellite technology is confusing enough without mixing it into the RV equation. Unfortunately if it was this important to you, you needed to do more research before buying. Don't get me wrong, I jam a lot of technology into my RV, just wish you weren't had by a salesman who was afraid to utter the words "I don't know".

Good luck and welcome to IRV2 and the Fleetwood forum.

Thanks Gerry. My learning curve has increased rapidly. Having owned Fountain Powerboats the RV is a new adventure.
