Fogged Window DIY Repair

Most of our double pane windows are fogged. On all but two of them it's only an annoyance but on the windows at the front driver & passenger sides it is a hazard. It is difficult to see anything in either mirror because these windows have fogged so badly, and if the light is just right it's totally impossible.

I got a quote from a company that repairs dual pane windows and when I got myself peeled off the ceiling I decided to at least look at repairing them myself. They also offered me a DIY kit. Since I'm pretty handy with a hammer I think I'd like to give it a shot.

The interior of the window of the frames has phillips-head screws every couple of inches. It looke like simplt removing the screws will allow the frame to split and the two parts can be removed from the inside and outside of the coach.

Thanks!

Has anybody done this themselves? Got pictures?

I realize you are in CA. But if you could plan to be in the Phoenix area in the near future....I got a "guy " who'll "fix-em" for less than $100 p/window. It"s not a complicated job when you have the right tools and some experience, so I can't understand the $$$$ some people charge!

Anyway, PM if you want my "guys" phone number.

I repaired all the windows in motorhome myself, a total of 11 windows. It is not difficult at all. You can order repair kits from Dave Root window repair. If you call him he will send you a step by step instruction to see if want to do it yourself before you actually purchase the kit. The kit will include all the tools you need except some basic hand tools.
Good luck

I replaced some windows on a old 1973 RV once. Have somebody on the outside to catch/hold the window. I had one fall on the ground. Took awhile to pick up all the pieces.

Suction cups

It doesn't look that difficult. That's why a quote of nearly 2,000 bucks made me hit the ceiling.

Once you remove the screws on the inside of the frame which way does the glass come out? Into the coach or outside?

I'm thinking that one of those suction cup things glass installers use might be just the thing to make it a one man job.

Thanks!

Inside is basically a trim ring. Main part of window will be outside and may be in with putty tape. Not sure they do that in all models but for safety, have someone hold it in place from outside or tape it off on the outside.

The glass is fixed into the frame. The outside frame and glass will come out together. When frame and glass is removed lay the outside unit on a padded table and disassemble the frame to free the glass itself. That's the way ours are made.

I think you will find it is much easier to remove the entire frame from the coach....you'll have to "cut" the weather seal and completely clean the coach frame and the window frame prior to re-installing....you can then separate the frame and safely remove the window..split.the window gasket and separate the windows for cleaning....put it all back together and re-instal & weather seal the frame.

I ordered the kit from Dave Root and for $85 I did the door window on my Revolution myself and it was really quite easy. I did take some pictures but really nothing much to look at. Seperating the glass was probably the hardest part.

Ordered the kit from Dave Root. Just completed the front drivers and passengers windows because it was becoming a safety issue. Did the passengers side first, took little over a day. Please be advised this is not an easy job. Luckily my grandson was in town for visit and helped me. Definitely a two person job. I'm very mechanical and soon figured out my own short-cuts which was especially helpful for the drivers side. Completed that side in about 5 hours only because there's a 3 hour cure time for the backfill to cure. I'm very pleased with the results.

No ... it is a kit specifically for RV windows and, to the best of my knowledge, it is available only from Dave Root.

scroll down his home page for a link to the repair kits.
